Dr. Asha Kumar is Western New York’s leading corneal specialist, with over 40 years managing corneal diseases and performing refractive surgeries. Her expertise is in corneal transplants, as well as complex corneal infections, dystrophies, and severe dry eye.

Expert Patient Care & Accomplishments
Through hard work and dedication, she earned a fellowship with James V. Aquavella, M.D., at the University of Rochester. This meant that she could learn firsthand from the first fellowship-trained corneal surgeon in the United States, and she has applied this knowledge and commitment to learning her entire career. She has been a member of ASCRS for the last 25 years.
In addition to teaching ophthalmology residents at the Buffalo VA Hospital for 30 years, Dr. Kumar travelled to Nicaragua from 2010-2015 to perform volunteer surgery.
Dr. Asha Kumar benefits from the ability to learn about her patients and quickly identify their needs. Her experience working under Dr. Aquavella, followed by decades in private practice, have put her on the front lines of corneal research.
