WHAT IS DURYSTA™?
DURYSTA™ is a way to manage glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and related conditions by relieving the high levels of intraocular pressure (IOP) responsible for these issues. More specifically, it’s a drug delivery implant that dissolves and releases IOP-lowering medicine over time.
One of DURYSTA ™’s greatest benefits is that a single appointment can relieve pressure for several months — due to its slow release, studies have found it able to consistently reduce IOP from 15 weeks to upwards of 18 months. The resulting IOP regulation can stop glaucoma and similar conditions in their tracks.

MEET DEEPAN SELVADURAI, M.D.
Dr. Deepan Selvadurai is an expert ophthalmologist who handles a wide range of ophthalmic issues at Buffalo Ophthalmology. Notably, he is an experienced surgeon with access to cutting edge glaucoma procedures and treatment options, and has made the incorporation of ongoing innovation a key part of his approach. For example, he was among the first to perform minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) with the OMNI® platform and the Kahook Dual Blade system.
Today, Dr. Selvadurai is proud to be one of the Western New York region’s first and most experienced providers of DURYSTA™, and is excited to make glaucoma much easier to manage for his patients.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM DURYSTA™ GLAUCOMA TREATMENT
This is a quick outpatient procedure that can produce lasting results with virtually no upkeep. The procedure can be easily done in the office or in the operating room.
When you receive a DURYSTA™ implant, your doctor will have you sit at the examining microscope or lay down, help you relax, and apply an anesthetic so you won’t feel anything during application other than slight pressure. With the click of a button, they’ll then safely insert the DURYSTA™ implant into your eye using an FDA-approved mechanism. The implant will begin to slowly dissolve, and continue to release its medicine over the coming weeks.
There’s essentially no downtime, though you may experience some red eyes or light sensitivity for a few hours after your appointment. Virtually all patients benefit from significant IOP relief over the coming 15 weeks, with some patients showing lower pressures up to 18 months later and counting, giving them peace of mind for the duration!
